What Are the Warning Signs That I Need Home Wiring Repairs?

You do not need to visually inspect your wiring in order to ascertain that you may be in need of wiring repairs.

Any irregularities in the operation of your electrical system, including:

  • flickering lights
  • frequently tripped breakers
  • smell a burning odor
  • notice black singe marks on the plates of outlets and switches.

Whatever it is that raises your concerns, let us know immediately so that we resolve any problems as needed!

What Is Wrong With the Two-Prong Outlet?

Two-prong outlets are non-grounded, which means that there is an increased risk of being electrocuted, and that there is a high likelihood of the appliance being easily damaged. Although it is possible to just add an outlet with an extra prong, unless your appliances are grounded, you will still be at-risk for electrocution and damage.

How Do I Know If My Outlet Is Grounded?

In order to determine if your outlet is grounded, locate the outlet you want to test. Plug a tester into the outlet, and wait until the indicator light illuminates. Then, look for a light pattern (described on your tester) to see if the outlet is connected properly. If your outlets are two-pronged and ungrounded rather than three-pronged and grounded, give Brilliant Home Services a call to rewire your home and ensure that your family is not at-risk of any safety hazards.

A three-pronged outlet creates an alternative pathway for electricity that acts as a safety feature. If there is ever a surge, this means the outlet has a place for excess electricity so that you do not get electrocuted.

Brilliant Home Services can also test your outlets for you to ensure you have grounded, three pronged outlets. Give us a call, and one of our experienced electricians will be able to determine if your outlets are grounded, and can rewire any outlets that are ungrounded on two-pronged!
